This is a step by step instruction on how to create and use API key on Bitmex crypto exchange.
What is an API key and why do I need it? An API key is an Application Programming Interface key is a long code consisting of different characters that gets passed in by computer applications. The program or application then calls the API or application programming interface to identify its user, developer or calling program to a website. The API key on Bitmex has a secret key for added security of the user. API key and Secret are used to grant limited access to your trading account to the third party to perform certain activities. API key has different permission settings.
If you are an Investor, and adding your exchange account to the AIVIA platform, please, choose “Order”permission in your API key settings. This permission will allow traders to perform trading activities in your account.
If you are a trader, please, choose “Read” permission in your API key settings. This will allow AIVIA platform to access your trading performance statistical data, to be displayed to all the users of the platform.
The registration page will open. You will be prompted to enter an email, set a password, input the First and Last name, agree to terms and conditions by checking the box and click the Register button. See the screenshot below
After clicking the Registration button the message will popup, advising you to access your email in order to Verify your email address, see the screenshot below.
After clicking Verify my email address you will be transferred to Bitmex website and Your crypto exchange account will be created. It is your Bitcoin wallet on Bitmex crypto exchange.
In order to access your exchange account, click on the email address in the top right corner. Choose Account and Security. See the screenshot below.
You will access the dashboard of your account
Here is the link https://www.bitmex.com/app/account
In the menu on the left side choose Security Center and turn on the Two Factor Authentication (2FA). See the screenshot below.
2FA works via application Google Authenticator. Download it on your phone. This app will generate codes for you to verify that access to your Bitmex exchange account is available only to you. In addition to the password, you will be asked to enter a code generated by Google Authenticator. 2FA is an additional layer of security to prevent unauthorized access to your Bitmex crypto exchange account.
Please note! When installing 2FA, be sure to save the authenticator code, this is a set of letters and numbers. Please save it as a code and qr code in a safe place. If for some reason you changed your phone, or removed the Google Authenticator application from the phone, then you can always restore access to your exchange account on Bitmex through the Google Authenticator application with an authenticator code. But if you lose the authenticator code, then regaining access to your exchange account will be more difficult, because you will have to submit a written support request to Bitmex support and ask them to remove 2FA from your account. Disabling 2FA through the support service is not a quick procedure and it requires complete verification where the exchange will ask you additional questions related to your account, including your transactions on the exchange account!
After enabling security in your Bitmex account settings you can create an API key and a secret key. You will need it in order to add your Bitmex crypto exchange account to your AIVIA platform account. To create an API key click on the section API Keys. Enter the name of the key and 2FA code. Then click on Create API Key.
ATTENTION!!! DO NOT check the box “WITHDRAW FUNDS” . If you check this box anyone will be able to withdraw your entire funds and assets in this account. ONCE AGAIN: DO NOT check the box “ WITHDRAW FUNDS”
After clicking Create API Key the Bitmex Crypto exchange will create two keys: API key and Secret key.
